Catholic Principals' Council of Ontario (CPCO) and Ontario Principals' Council (OPC) in partnership with Ontario Public School Boards' Association (OPSBA) have developed two fully online Leadership Modules for French as a Second Language (FSL) professional learning.
Module 2: Leading the FSL program in Catholic Secondary Schools
Learning Goals:
- Identify and implement strategies to support French programs at the secondary level
- Develop confidence by discussing strategies to assist in the sustainability and continued growth of French programs in the face of competing leadership challenges.
- Consider unique leadership challenges and opportunities that affect French instruction in Catholic secondary schools.
These modules are designed to engage school administrators and other education leaders, to consider innovative and evidence-based practices and strategies that support French Second Language programs. These modules help to build a compendium of effective strategies to support Catholic school administrators' understanding of the French second language program including French Immersion and its unique needs.
Some things to consider as you engage in these modules:
- You may work through these modules as a self-directed learning experience, setting your own pace and accessing it how you see fit.
- You may want to consider completing these modules with other principal colleagues. Together, a small group can discuss how the content reflects what is happening in their schools.
- All materials required to complete these modules are included within the four content sections.
- Each module is designed to take approximately five hours to complete. You can exit and return to your current learning section as you need to.
Note: While the content in this course is mainly focused on the roles of Vice-Principal and Principal, they are supportive for all education leaders - positional or not.

Suggested readings enhance the learning experience. There are various Learning Journal Reflections and actionable items throughout the course for you to consider. The you spend thoughtfully responding to the reflection questions will support your development as an effective Catholic School leader.
